Greek mythology combined with video games, a match made in heaven if you ask me.
In 2020, the first Hades game was released. It won three awards and sold 1 million copies. The creator, Supergiant Games, saw this and decided to make another, and in May of 2024, the early access build dropped on Steam. Almost a year and a half later, Hades II was released to the public on Sept. 25, 2025.
Both Hades games are roguelite games, roguelite being a subgenre of roguelike games. A roguelite game needs two things: randomly generated rooms, and upgrades that persist after death.
Hades II is a sequel to the first game, taking place a long time after the first game. In this game you play as Melinoe, princess of the underworld making her way down to save her family trapped in the underworld by Cronos, the Titan of Time.
You go through four regions of the underworld before showing up at the house of Hades and fighting Cronos.
This time, there’s a second path where you ascend to Mount Olympus to defend it from the father of all monsters.
Having two paths adds to the replayability along with the factor of everything being random, so having that extra new factor is the cherry on top.
This game brought back all of the gods from the first game, now with new sprites and boons, and added four new gods on top of that: Apollo, Hephaestus, Hera, and Hestia. Each god has beautiful, hand drawn portraits.
The game also adds 33 new and (mostly) unique keepsakes, six new companions, six new weapons and 25 arcana cards replacing Hades’ mirror of night upgrades.
My favorite out of the new weapons is Lim and Oros, The Sister Blades, a dagger and sickle perfect for swift fast damage.
Melinoe boasts different talents then her brother Zagreus (The protagonist of Hades 1).
Zag’s dash is now replaced with one dash and then a long sprint, and the cast is no longer a projectile, now being a circle that slows enemies down.
My personal opinion is that yes, this game is amazing. Whether it be its art, music, or story, it has it all, so if you like Greek mythology, I recommend you check the game out.
