Ever since the introduction of the Nintendo Wii, Mii’s have been a Nintendo staple. These lovable customizable guys or gals seem to not be going anywhere soon. At first they were just used as a small digital avatar, but as Nintendo went on, they added Mii functionality to some games, such as Mario Kart Wii, where you could play as the Mii you made and race the Mario characters, and for a while it was just that. And then the Nintendo 3DS dropped, and with it brought Tomadachi Life.
Tomdachi Life’s name is based on the popular electronic kids’ toy Tomagachi. It involved a small digital pet that you would play with, feed and take care of. But Tomadachi Life is all of that on a much bigger scale. In Tomadachi Life, you take the role as the mayor, and watch as your Mii characters live wacky lives. They can form relationships, have random and funny dreams, and even fall in love.
When the Nintendo Switch came out and released the remake of Miitopia, another Mii game that was a fantasy-styled RPG, this showed the true potential of Mii’s. It added a makeup system that could allow you to make Mii’s that had never been possible and when people saw that, they immediately wanted a Switch remake of Tomadachi Life. It seemed like we weren’t getting one, until a Nintendo Direct on March 27, 2025, when Tomadachi Life: Living The Dream was announced.
Living The Dream managed to add tons of new content while being extremely faithful to the original. New content includes making the island customizable to your tastes, being able to draw Mii’s facial features, and now being able to let them live in individual unique houses. The animations remain just as goofy as their counterparts, such as a Mii finding his favorite food. But it’s safe to say it remained faithful, but upgraded it in needed aspects.
The game is wonderful, adding the ability to watch your Mii’s walk around and interact. It uses the same feature to draw mii faces, to make custom foods, clothing, and housing. It gives you the ability to completely customize the island to your liking. I’ve enjoyed messing around, seeing what funny, and random events would happen on the island.
The game is $60 which is a bit pricey, but it’s also a really nice game, one of those that you can always just put down and come right back to. Overall I loved it and the original so I recommend anyone who likes games like Animal Crossing to play it.
