In episode one of season three of Euphoria, the show comes back with a strong and dramatic start, focusing on how the characters are trying to move forward while still dealing with the consequences of their pasts.
Rue’s storyline is much heavier. She is clearly struggling again and has gotten herself into a dangerous situation. The episode shows she owes a serious debt which adds a lot of tension and worry for what might happen next. It feels like she is stuck in and the pressure is building up more and more. This makes it more concerning about how she will handle it and if she can find a way out by the end of the season wrap up.
One of the most interesting parts of the episode is Maddy’s new role. She seems more independent and focused and there’s a hint that she may be stepping into a business opportunity that could change her future. This shows real growth for her character, as she’s no longer just reacting to situations but starting to take control of her own life.
Cassie and Nate also have an intense moment during a table scene where they argue about Cassie making explicit content online to be able to spend a huge amount of money on flowers. This argument highlights their unstable relationship and how they struggle to agree on anything important. It shows how their choices are becoming more extreme and unrealistic.
I liked how they gave another memorial for Eric Dane, who played Cal Jacobs, Nate’s dad. Dane died in February 2026 at age 53 following a battle with ALS. The HBO Max hit series was delightful to give us a second episode memorial for his hard work and dedication.
The last scene of the episode is especially powerful. It leaves viewers with a sense that something big is about to happen, setting the tone for the rest of the season. Overall, the episode does a great job of reintroducing the characters while building suspense for what’s coming next. I personally liked it because it was an amazing reintroduction to the characters since it’s been over four years since we have seen the cast on our screen.
