Natalia Bingham, the performing arts Sterling Scholar, is a creative, accomplished and passionate individual. Bingham was born for the stage. Her parents met in high school after being in the same choir group together and Bingham grew up watching their performances. Since she was a little girl, Natalia has loved singing, acting, and theater.
Bingham’s biggest inspiration in life are her parents.
“They have gone through so much and are still wonderful people,” Bingham said. “They’ve taught me how to be hardworking and dedicated while also finding time for friends and family. They are wonderful people and I look up to them so much.”
Bingham’s proudest accomplishment in her drama career so far has been her leading role as Anya in the “Anastasia” musical production. One of Bingham’s most cherished memories from the play was being able to watch her sister dance as Odette every night.
“Every night my soul is filled with joy to be onstage with my cast and family in the audience but it wouldn’t be done without the production team, Mr. Daniels, Lindsey, Stephanie, and Mr. Saunders,” Bingham said. “Anya takes a lot of me but in such a beautiful, positive way. I am able to step into a character I love and spread the light I have. I’m so proud of the cast and crew. Our hard work definitely pays off.”
To Bingham, theater is more than just playing a part inside of a performance. Bingham once struggled with the workload theater demanded of her, but she kept going, had a good attitude, and she soon learned theater was her passion in life.
“I wouldn’t be the person I am today [without theater],” Bingham said. “I am so happy that I stayed doing what I love. I had to think truly about what theater meant to me and I’ve learned that it’s not just about the character or songs, but the people and memories are what matters.”
Bingham found the Sterling Scholar application process challenging but rewarding. Bingham also shared a piece of advice for upcoming seniors interested in applying for Sterling Scholar next year.
“It is a ton of work but so worth it,” Bingham said. “There is nothing you can’t do. It seems scary but the work pays off.”
After high school, Bingham hopes to continue pursuing work in theater. Bingham wants to be able to contribute to theater in any way possible throughout her entire life.
