Senior Isabelle Primm has been making art her entire life. She has always had the passion to create, whether that be painting a new watercolor landscape or glazing a freshly fired vase.
Primm takes inspiration from her mother, Star, who is a local artist. Star has always been Primm’s biggest support system in life.
“I always had a teeny easel to set up next to hers growing up,” Primm said.
Primm’s favorite mediums to use in her work are watercolor, oils, and clay, but she is always willing to explore different methods. Primm also enjoys doing pencil drawings. Primm’s first oil painting, which shows an image of a mallard duck, is her favorite painting that she has done. When she was creating it, she said she “loved every minute of it.”
Primm has won multiple awards throughout her art career, including the Utah PTA Reflections Award of Excellence and Artist of the Year. Her work has been featured in the Springfield Art Show and the Snowcrest Library gallery.
As soon as Primm found out about the Sterling Scholar program her sophomore year of high school, she knew that she wanted to be an Art Sterling Scholar.
She spent hours collecting her pieces in order to be ready for the interview. When she found out that she had made it, she was ecstatic.
“I was really happy and proud of how far I have come,” Primm said.
Sometimes, Primm struggles with art block and a lack of motivation. Primm always finds a way to create though, whether that be through getting excited for a new art piece or switching the medium that she uses.
If Primm could give other artists some advice, she would recommend that they keep creating.
“Like many things, joy is robbed when you compare yourself to others. Everyone is on their own journey and does things differently. It is great to appreciate and learn from others, but don’t forget your own worth,” Primm said.
In her free time, Primm enjoys skiing, reading, playing guitar and volleyball, being outside, and hanging out with her friends. Primm is also active in multiple theatre programs.
After high school, Primm plans on going on an LDS mission and then attending Utah State University to further her art career.
Art is always going to be a part of Primm’s life, even if she doesn’t end up pursuing a career in the field.
“It has always been a way I can express myself. I love it because it brings me joy and helps me relax,” Primm said.
