On Tuesday, April 28, the school held a reading for the Scripto magazine in the library at 6 p.m. The Scripto magazine is a tradition that has been here for over 15 years.
The magazine is entirely composed of students’ pieces, and has been used as a way to let student voices be heard and to encourage young writers to get their work officially published. The magazine is made up of non-fiction and fiction writing, as well as poetry and photography.
This year, the Scripto magazine received over 200 different submissions. Each piece was carefully analyzed by different students and teachers at the school, and the best pieces were anonymously chosen for the magazine.
The Scripto magazine was edited by Mrs. Leake, an English teacher, who has been helping edit the magazine since her arrival at Weber High.
“Scripto . . . shines a light on the quiet artistic work that is happening at Weber—photography, but especially creative writing. I love that it is an annual tradition and has been for nearly the entire lifetime of WHS,” she said.
At the reading, each student who was published received the opportunity to read their work in front of family and friends, and enjoy some juice and cookies afterwards. Scripto Magazines were then sold for $6 each.
Many of the students who were published were seniors, including Alana Salcido and Bara Vachuskova. Students shared stories about nature, school, family, and more.
Students who are interested in purchasing their own copy of Scripto can do so at the bookkeeping office, located in the commons and the main office.
