The Spring Musical debuts this week

The spring musical, “The Drowsy Chaperone” will be performed from March 4-9 every evening at 7:00 p.m. Monday-Friday and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

“I’m excited for opening night, because I think opening nights are always the funniest nights,” senior role “Feldzieg” Jonah Bowles said. “You get to show off all the hard work you’ve done.”

The theater students had tryouts for “The Drowsy Chaperone” last year and started rehearsing for it early on before really working on the play fully.

At the same time, they also were working on a different musical called “Anastasia” while auditioning for “The Drowsy Chaperone.” They didn’t start working on this musical until January. When they started to work on the musical they mainly focused on learning the music numbers, and dances and really got started on the play to help it come together before the start date.

“Technically we got casted this [past] August, but we didn’t start really working on it until about January,” senior ensemble cast member AJ Szymanski said.

Everyone has different ways of preparing to go on stage and doing the best they can to show how their character is, getting into character is important to ensure the best performances possible within the whole cast.

“We meet in what the theater kids call ‘The Bean’. In ‘The Bean’,’ we do like to cast green room warm ups and stuff, just to be all in the same mental place,” junior ensemble cast member Rachel Long said.

There can be a lot of new things to expect while anticipating a new show that may be underground and not a lot of people know about. It can hold suspense and keep you entertained until the end of the show.

“It’s a lot of fun, and I hope a lot of people come to see it, because it’s a super funny show, and I hope it makes a lot of people happy,” senior ensemble cast member Sam Roundy said.

Exciting things can be expected in the musical, such as tap dancing, ensemble, and main character castings.

“The number ‘Cold Feet’ is a tap dance scene where we will all tap dance and it is one of the fun scenes we get to perform. It is challenging but it is definitely still super fun,” Szymanski said

There are many scenes to be performed in this play, but one thing in common with them all was being able to watch everyone perform even when they may not have a lead part in the moment.

“We are excited to watch all of the leads do their scenes because they all have a hilarious part in this play and they are super fun to watch,” Long said.
