Two years after the release of “NEVER ENOUGH” Daniel Caesar is back with “Son Of Spergy”.
“Son Of Spergy” is more than just an album, it is an emotional and raw album dedicated to his father. This album is also dedicated to his relationship with God.
It is a different take from his last albums which are slow and smooth R&B love songs.
Before this album, we only knew the basics of Daniel and his dad’s relationship. At the age of 17, he was kicked out of his house after a fight with his dad because of his decision to pursue his music career. I like that we get a better perspective on that relationship in this album.
This album has an impressive list of featured artists, including Bon Iver, Blood Orange, and Yebba, but it doesn’t live up to the expectations I imagined. The songs were repetitive and somewhat underwhelming.
Even if it did have moments of being “unimpressive,” I do like the mix and tone each artist added into the music itself.
My favorite song from this album has to be “Who knows”, because it talks about how no one knows what will happen in the future, but even if you don’t know you can always try. I also like his soft tone in the song.
With emotion and storytelling in this album, I think Daniel and everyone who had a part in it did a good job.You can tell how much this album really means to Daniel. And that’s what makes it worth listening to.
