Social media plays a big role in everyday life, especially for high school students like me. Apps like Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat make it easy to stay connected with friends and share what’s going on. It can be a fun way to express yourself, find new hobbies and keep up with trends. However, social media also has some negative effects that are important to recognize.
One big issue is comparison. People usually are posting the best parts of their lives which can make people feel like they are not doing enough or not good enough. This can lower your confidence and create pressure to be better or act a certain way which can make it harder to focus on more important things like school or relationships. Spending too much time online can take away the important things like sleep or doing fun activities with friends or family.
Even though there are downsides there are also some upsides. Social media isn’t all that bad. It can be helpful for learning new things, connecting with people far away, or spreading awareness. The way to actually use social media in a healthy way is to set limits on how long you can spend on apps and remembering that not everything you see on the internet is real.
Overall, social media can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you use it, it’s important to control how long you’re on social media and to make sure if the thing your watching is true.
