Ever since I was little, I have had a passion for being on the stage. I always liked the feeling of bright lights shining on my face and looking out into a full audience.
Growing up, my siblings were very active. My family had a mix of basketball, soccer, and ballet. I wanted to figure out what my passion was as well, so I started dancing at six years old.
After I danced at Juliet Moffit Ballet School for a few years, I moved to a different dance studio which involved singing and dancing. This introduced me to my other passion: singing.
I kept dancing for a few years, then I quit. Once I quit, I started to become intrigued with my school musicals in eighth grade. I realized in musical theatre, not only do you get to dance and sing, but you also get to act and memorize lines. That is when I realized that musical theatre is what I want to do.
When ninth grade came around, I tried out for the musical: “Tuck Everlasting”, and I got the comedic relief character, “Constable Joe”. It was my first titled role, and I couldn’t wait to see what my future held.
I kept participating in the high school shows, and even took it a step further at the end of my junior year, trying out for “Productions”, which holds the top actors in the school. Waiting for the productions list to come out felt like the longest wait of my life, but when I finally received the list, I started crying with joy. I have made it into the cast and am going to be in the spring musical, “The Drowsy Chaperone”.
The stage will always hold a place in my heart. To me, it’s like you can receive any character and transform into them. Any problems that I have faced disappear the moment I step foot onto the stage.
