Back to school season in Weber County is finally here. The sounds of pencils sharpening, kids laughing, and computer keys clacking can be heard inside the halls of thousands of schools around the world. At Weber High, an important part of going back to school is Club Rush. Club Rush gives students the opportunity to learn more about the clubs offered at Weber as well as socialize with their peers. It’s an important part of one’s high school experience and it increases the number of members each club has, not only helping Weber High, but also the community.
This year, Club Rush took place from Aug. 25 to Aug. 29 in the commons. During lunch, students could be seen playing games at different club tables and learning more about what each club has to offer.
The Interact Rotary Club, led by Mrs. Champi, was giving away multiple different prizes to students who played a game with ping-pong balls and plastic cups. Depending on how they did on the game, students could choose either a candy, toy, beach ball, or bag of popcorn. The Interact Rotary Club is a service foundation dedicated to helping those in need. An opening social for the club will be held on Friday, Sept. 12 in Room 221. There will be pizza and games for interested students to enjoy.
“I’m pumped for the social because there will be snacks,” senior Luke Hale, a new Rotary Club member, said. “I’m excited to be working with my friend to help people in Rotary.”
The DECA and FBLA table at Club Rush also generated attention from students. The table had a colorful wheel that students could spin for a chance to win candy or club merchandise. The table was also decked out with balloons and banners. Dance music was also played. DECA and FBLA hosted their opening meeting on Sept. 2 and 3 before and after school in the library. Cookies were served and the Weber Business Academy (WBA) officer team answered any questions that students had for them about the club.
“[At the table] this DECA kid gave me a shirt, it was so cool,” senior Liberty Bingham said.
Senior Cienna Henderson has been in DECA and FBLA her entire high school career. This year, she is participating in WBA office as a Competitions Vice President.
“I really enjoyed being able to meet many people from Weber and to experience their joy and excitement at getting gifts,” Henderson said. “I also enjoyed hearing about new students’ passions and being a part of finding them a place in our club.”
